Aims and scope

Policy focus in 2026

  • EC Evaluation of the PQD and preparation for its upcoming revision
  • Single Market Strategy (education, qualifications, and CPD-related issues)
  • EC Traineeship proposal
  • Practical Professional Experience (PPE) — Comparing durations and structures across Member States to inform recommendations for future PQD reviews, building on standards that often exceed EU minimums.
  • Strengthening CPD — Enhancing understanding, support, and adoption among Member Organisations and EU States; advocating mandatory systems, harmonisation, and access to quality training.
  • Upskilling Alignment — Linking CPD to EU priorities (e.g., sustainable energy skills via the ARISE project) for lifelong competence in emerging areas, including financial literacy and the assessment of the cost of architectural production.
  • By monitoring transposition, sharing best practices, and preparing for PQD revisions, the WG ensures architects remain competent, competitive, and capable of contributing to Europe’s resilient, inclusive built environment.
