The Architects’ Council of Europe is the representative organisation for architecture at European level. Through its 53 Member Organisations, ACE repræsenterer interesserne for over en halv million arkitekter fra 36 lande i Europa.

Its membership includes the regulatory and professional representative bodies from all EU Member States; 6 Observer Members from EU Accession Countries and a potential candidate country (Serbia, Ukraine, Montenegro, the Republic of North Macedonia, Moldova and Kosovo); as well as Members with special status (the UK, Switzerland and Norway).

Forvaltning af ACE

Den  Forvaltning af ACE består af en Generalforsamling, en Direktionen, og a Det permanente sekretariat baseret på Bruxelles.

  • Den Generalforsamling er det øverste beslutningstagende organ, der består af delegationer fra hver medlemsorganisation. Det træder sammen to gange om året for at fastlægge ACE-politikker og godkende budgettet.
  • Den Direktionen, der består af 11 medlemmer, er ansvarlig for at gennemføre generalforsamlingens politikker og føre tilsyn med organisationens administration.
  • Den  sekretariat spiller en central rolle med hensyn til at støtte forvaltningsstrukturen.

    I 2004 Architekt Daniel Fügenschuh ZT GmbH- www.fuegenschuh.at Siden da har virksomheden været etableret i Innsbruck. Arkitektens atelier blev oprindeligt grundlagt i 2000 i London. I 1996 blev et første hus realiseret lige efter eksamen, der lagde fundamentet for alle følgende trin.

    Siden 2010 har han været aktivt involveret i arkitekternes faglige repræsentation efter at have ledet et arkitekturcenter i Innsbruck i 4 år.

    Han forbedrede yderligere sin praktiske erfaring med politiske strategier og lobbyvirksomhed for arkitekturpolitikker på EU-plan under traktatbrudsproceduren mod den østrigske nationale erhvervslovgivning. Det østrigske kammer og ham selv som formand for arkitektsektionen i BKZT var meget involveret i forhandlingsprocessen efter dommen i 2019.

    Siden 2022 har han været medlem af ACE's bestyrelse og aktivt involveret i ACE Think Thank og det EU-finansierede projekt ARCH-E.

    Elected to the Regional Council of the Order of Architects of Nord-Pas de Calais (France) between from 2013 to 2017, she served as General Secretary.

    During her term, she was particularly committed to supporting young, registered architects, fostering a welcoming and educational environment within the institution.She actively participated in several Commissions and Working Groups, driven by a strong and dynamic commitment to advancing our profession. Notably, she contributed to the “Vie Professionnelle” Commission, which focuses on the diversity of our field and the role of women in architecture. Drawing on my professional experience,she also joined the “Design and Build” working group, helping to draft a charter of best practices for these types of contracts. In addition, Elisabeth played a key role in conciliation proceedings.

    Elected to the National Council of the Order of Architects from 2017 to 2024, she was particularly engaged in issues of gender equality, legal matters, and the day-to-day functioning of the institution. Actively engaged in international collaboration with the International Union of architects and the Architects Council of Europe, she had the chance to represent the CNOA in work groups dealing with access to the profession, and practice of the profession. At the request of Pavel Martinek, she joined the ACE working group on artificial intelligence a few months ago. After discussions with Borys Czarakcziew, she decided to join the new working group created by Diego Zoppi, based on the former AMADA group, which deals with economic issues related to our profession.

    Diego Zoppi, arkitekt (æreskandidat i 1987 - Arkitekturfakultetet i Genova). Han beskæftiger sig med planlægning, bydesign, byfornyelse, restaurering og arkitektur. Han underskrev City Frameworks, projektet for National Rowing Center, udvalgt til arkitekturbiennalen i Venedig i 2006, pladser, havnefronter og landskab af offentlige rum placeret i Italien, i Mellemøsten, i Fjernøsten. 

    Medstifter af AR&P Architecture sammen med andre kolleger og deltager med succes i forskellige designkonkurrencer (ombygning af Genova-Voltri-byhavnen fra industriområdet – realiseret, ny parkering og forbindelse til Republikken San Marinos historiske by, talrige nye byer omkring Shanghai (Kina), restaurering af Nanjing-fæstningen (Kina), nyt turistcenter i den historiske by Jiu Ji Jiao (Kina) og projekter som svømmestadion i Hanoi og havnefronten i Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam), ombygning af centerdistriktet i Ryadh (Saudi-Arabien), Innovation Center Solar Park (Dubai).  Forskellige projekter er blevet offentliggjort på specialiserede magasiner (Casabella, Domus ...).

    Han var medlem af bestyrelsen (siden 2015 formand) i provinsrådet for arkitekter i Genova. Siden 2016 har han været medlem af det italienske nationale råd for arkitekter, landskabsarkitekter, planlæggere og konservatorier, hvor han koordinerer afdelingen for byplanlægningsforskning og -udvikling. Siden november 2019 har han været medlem af ACE's bestyrelse og koordinator for ACE Area 2 "Practice of the Profession".

    Coordinator of the thematic area “Practice of the profession”

    Carl Bäckstrand er arkitekt og viceadministrerende direktør for White Arkitekter. Hvid er mest anerkendt for visionære eksempler på bæredygtig arkitektur, der står over for udfordringerne med klimaændringer, hurtig urbanisering og sociale uretfærdigheder, såsom True Blue i Bergen, Norge og den 100-årige masterplan for flytningen af byen Kiruna i Sveriges arktiske nord.

    Carl har i mange år haft fokus på urbane problemstillinger med en kandidatgrad i arkitektur ved Lunds Universitet efterfulgt af studier i landskabsarkitektur ved Det Kongelige Kunstakademi i København og derefter Urban Design som gæsteforsker ved MIT Cambridge MA. Carls engagement strækker sig fra masterplaner og boligudvikling til universitetsordninger og kulturcentre i Sverige, Danmark, Det Forenede Kongerige, Canada og Østafrika.

    Som bestyrelsesmedlem i ARQ Foundation og medformand for van Alen Council bidrager NYC Carl til at bringe virksomheden tættere på videnskaben og opbygge nye strategiske partnerskaber og som taler på internationale konferencer som Greenbuild og på universiteter som Stuttgart School of Architecture.

    Reto er en engageret schweizisk arkitekt, der driver sin egen praksis i Basel. Størrelsen af kontoret er begrænset af efterspørgslen efter kvalitet, de forsøger at nå. Det har fokus på sundhedsdesign, men er også aktivt inden for offentlige bygninger og boligdesign, transformationer og kulturarv.

    Reto har erfaring som deltager og/eller jurymedlem i arkitektkonkurrencer, som deltager og/eller jurymedlem og erfaring med at fremme arkitektur af høj kvalitet i konkurrencer.

    Siden 2024 har han været medlem af ACE's bestyrelse og medlem af ACE Think Thank.

    Coordinator of the thematic area “High-quality architecture & built environment/ Baukultur”

    Architect and environmental policy expert, Dr Judit Kimpian is a versatile campaigner for UK and EU policy reform for an equitable net zero built environment. During 20 years in architectural practice, including a decade as Head, then Director of Sustainable Architecture and Research at AHR, she was responsible for the realisation of major international design projects and prominent cross-sector research into net zero architecture and building performance. Her work has informed the development of CIBSE and RIBA technical guidance and culminated in the book Energy|People|Buildings – Making Sustainable Architecture Work (RIBA Publishing 2021).

    Judit works as an expert on the EU’s Net Zero Carbon Pilot Cities programme, is a member of the UK Net Zero Carbon Building Standard Governance Board, chairs the Architects’ Council of Europe’s (ACE) Sustainable Architecture Group, and teaches net zero design and policy at UCL. She is a frequent speaker at national and international conferences and participates in design juries and Citizens Climate Assemblies.

    Eugen Pănescu is an architect and urban planner, co-founder of Planwerk studio (Cluj, Romania). He contributed to the rebirth of public space and the transformation of the planning professional practice in Romania. He guided the Urban Design Studio at the Cluj Architecture Faculty on brownfields transformation.

    As a fomer Executive Board member of the Architects Council of Europe and coordinator of the Baukultur thematic area, he followed the European Urban Agenda and the partnerships for culture in the European Heritage Alliance, for the wise re-use and cautious retrofitting of buildings and urban areas. He promotes the holistic approach on heritage through social and economic equity, linking innovative public governance in planning with civic action.

    Istelianna Atanassova has a Masters degree in Architecture from the State University of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Geodesy in Sofia, Bulgaria. She has realised architecture and urban planning projects in Bulgaria, Germany, Italy and Libya among others and has extensive experience in developing and carrying out business plans, project design and expertise, sustainable practices and innovations. 

    She served as UIA Region II Vice-President for the 2021-2023 term. During the last UIA term, Ms. Atanassova was a Region II Council Member, Chair of the International Women in Architecture Committee and Member of the ICC Commission.

    She is actively engaged with the international Forums for young architects in addition to being a member of the Board of the Union of Architects in Bulgaria and Honorary member of the Georgian Union of Architects.

    ACE's generalsekretær

    Dr. Katharina Erdmenger brings more than 20 years of leadership experience in European policymaking and has managed negotiations with the European Commission and the European Parliament on major initiatives, including the New European Bauhaus, construction products, civil protection,  climate change adaptation, cross-border planning initiatives and  regional and urban development.

    With deep expertise in EU policymaking, spatial and urban planning, sustainable development, and climate and renovation policies, Dr Erdmenger combines strategic vision with strong operational leadership. Her proven ability to manage large teams, budgets, and EU funds, together with her experience both within EU institutions and in advocacy roles towards them, provides a strong foundation to advance ACE’s priorities.

    As Secretary General, she will lead the ACE Secretariat and work closely with the Executive Board, Member Organisations, and EU institutions to strengthen ACE’s policy advocacy and reinforce the role of architects in addressing Europe’s social, environmental, and economic challenges.

    I am greatly honoured to be entrusted with this prestigious position. I am very much looking forward to support ACE in promoting its  core values of a high quality affordable living environment for all. ACE can contribute a lot to the European debates on housing, energy efficiency, sustainability and crisis and disaster resilience and I look forward to being part of this policy dialogue with European Institutions and partners” stated Dr. Katharina Erdmenger.
