Work Group

3rd Countries Workgroup

Chair: Katharina Erdmenger & Marlene Roque

Aims and scope

The WG aims to addresses:

  • Internationalisation — Supporting EU architects’ global outreach and firms’ expansion beyond Europe.
  • Third-country access — Managing recognition of foreign qualifications, market entry for non-EU architects, and safeguards for Europe’s standards.
  • Trade in services — Engaging in FTAs, WTO/GATS frameworks, and bilateral deals to reduce barriers (tariffs, procedures, taxes).
  • MRAs — Advocating and negotiating mutual recognition agreements to promote fair, reciprocal mobility while upholding public interest, quality, and cultural value.

By monitoring opportunities, sharing best practices, and influencing EU trade/policy, the WG positions architecture as a competitive, export-oriented sector aligned with EU goals for open markets, sustainability, and global influence—ensuring balanced internationalisation benefits the profession and Europe’s built environment.
