Publication of the ACE 2014 Annual Report & 2015 Outlook

28.04.2015

The Architects Council of Europe (ACE) has published its 2014 Annual Report & 2015 Outlook. The document, issued in English and French, contains information about activities carried out in 2014 and priorities for 2015, as well as the financial out-turn and governance structure.

A non-exhaustive list of 2014 achievements includes:

- The Briefing of Experts organised in September, in preparation for the Peer Review exercise organised by the European Commission to evaluate regulation governing access to the architectural profession. This preparatory meeting allowed ACE to distil its position on regulation, and present a coherent and united front to the European Commission.

- The development of nine policy positions in support of the ACE Manifesto for the European Parliament elections. The document will be finalised in 2015.

- The concerted effort made to consolidate existing relations with Commission Directorates (MARKT, TRADE) and develop new ones (ENTR, ENV).

- The  ACE has been actively following the CETA and TTIP negotiations and pursuing interest in mutual recognition agreements with the Canadian Architectural Licensing Authorities (CALA) and the US National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB).

Contacts with Schools of Architecture were revived through collaboration with the European Association for Architectural Education (EAAE), notably through an ERASMUS+ project and by developing plans for a Prize for Best Diploma Project on the theme: “EU Architect 2030”.

- The International Programme has been re-assessed through stronger relations with International Union of Architects (UIA) and the regional organisations – ARCASIA, AUA, FPAA.  It is of great importance to offer outlets to European architects, providing them with information and a programme of internationalisation.

- The ACE Sector Study has been expanded to incorporate some new questions on cross-border work. The definitive document was published early in 2015 and is available on the ACE Website

Main priorities for 2015 comprise: follow-up of the implementation of the new Public Procurement Directive and Professional Qualifications Directive, help for EU Architects to become more globally competitive, working with DG TRADE and DG GROW (Entrepreneurship, SMEs); maintain focus on evolving regulation, consider re-regulation rather than de-regulation; and be more representative at EU level.
