On 11 June 2026, the Architects’ Council of Europe joined Housing Europe, EUROCITIES, UN-Habitat and the Global Alliance for Buildings and Construction (GlobalABC) in adopting the joint declaration “Delivering Affordable and Climate-Resilient Housing for All” at the New European Bauhaus Festival.
The declaration highlights the urgent need to tackle Europe’s housing and climate crises together, calling for stronger partnerships between cities, architects, and public, cooperative and social housing providers. It sets out a shared agenda to deliver affordable, high-quality and climate-resilient housing through better spatial planning, design quality, technical support, community engagement and social inclusion.
The signatories call for a European partnership for climate-resilient and low-emission affordable housing, supported by stable investment, enabling regulation, technical assistance and long-term political commitment. The declaration also reaffirms the essential role of architects in delivering sustainable, adaptable and people-centred housing solutions that improve quality of life while protecting the most vulnerable communities.
