Architects’ Council of Europe welcomes Dr Katharina Erdmenger as new Secretary General

Brussels, 3/02/26  — The Architects’ Council of Europe (ACE) is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Katharina Erdmenger as its new Secretary General.

Dr. Katharina Erdmenger brings more than 20 years of leadership experience in European policymaking and has managed negotiations with the European Commission and the European Parliament on major initiatives, including the New European Bauhaus, construction products, civil protection,  climate change adaptation, cross-border planning initiatives and  regional and urban development.

With deep expertise in EU policymaking, spatial and urban planning, sustainable development, and climate and renovation policies, Dr Erdmenger combines strategic vision with strong operational leadership. Her proven ability to manage large teams, budgets, and EU funds, together with her experience both within EU institutions and in advocacy roles towards them, provides a strong foundation to advance ACE’s priorities.

As Secretary General, she will lead the ACE Secretariat and work closely with the Executive Board, Member Organisations, and EU institutions to strengthen ACE’s policy advocacy and reinforce the role of architects in addressing Europe’s social, environmental, and economic challenges.

Commenting on the appointment, ACE President Daniel Fügenschuh said: “We are delighted to welcome Dr Katharina Erdmenger as Secretary General of ACE. Her experience and insight into European policymaking will be a key asset in supporting the profession and our members across Europe.”

Dr Katharina Erdmenger succeeds Ian Pritchard, who retired at the end of 2025. She took up her position on 2 February.

I am greatly honoured to be entrusted with this prestigious position. I am very much looking forward to support ACE in promoting its  core values of a high quality affordable living environment for all. ACE can contribute a lot to the European debates on housing, energy efficiency, sustainability and crisis and disaster resilience and I look forward to being part of this policy dialogue with European Institutions and partners” stated Dr. Katharina Erdmenger.
