How can historic windows be upgraded to meet today’s energy and comfort requirements without compromising their architectural character?

Върху 15 October 2026, HeriTACE, together with its sister project FuturHist, will explore this question in a webinar bringing together researchers and practitioners working at the intersection of heritage conservation, building performance and renovation practice.

The webinar will take place from 9:30 to 11:00 CEST and will explore practical approaches to window retrofit, airtightness and sustainable alternatives to replacement.

HeriTACE researchers Nathan Van Den Bossche (Ghent University) и Paul Klõšeiko (Tallinn University of Technology) will present approaches to improving airtightness in historic windows, focusing on how their performance can be enhanced while respecting existing heritage elements. FuturHist will explore sustainable alternatives to window replacement, with Alexandra Troi (Eurac Research) и Stefan Möller (Holzmanufaktur Rottweil) presenting retrofit solutions across four historic building typologies.

The guest project CALECHE, represented by Elodie Heberle and Julien Borderon (Cerema), will share methodologies and practical inspiration for navigating historic window retrofits.

The webinar will conclude with a Q&A and discussion, followed by an optional in-person workshop in Strasbourg from 11:30 to 13:00 CEST, offering an opportunity to discuss the practical challenges of renovating historic windows.
