Monday 25 March 2025, a conference co-organised by the European Commission and the European Parliament focused on the ongoing housing crisis and explored potential EU-level solutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

MEPs, Commission representatives, and other EU institutions had the opportunity to hear from national and regional authorities, as well as stakeholders, about the efforts underway in EU countries to improve access to affordable housing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On this occasion, Commissioner Dan J\u00f8rgensen said: “And we are here because we need to deliver more decent housing. It is not just about increasing the quantity of Europe’s housing stock; it is also about quality. We need to invest in decent, accessible, and durable houses, well connected to local infrastructure \u2013 for health and education, services and resources \u2013 which provide the building blocks of communities, and the foundations of our societies. We can draw inspiration from the New European Bauhaus, which promotes buildings that are sustainable, inclusive, and enriching for their local environment.”<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

ACE President, Ruth Schagemann, contributed to the discussion, emphasising that the key to increasing affordable housing in Europe lies in fostering innovation, quality, and collaboration. Quality, in this context, means ensuring decent, comfortable, and sustainable living conditions, while also prioritizing accessibility and affordability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
