Join the Hub’s New European Bauhaus Festival satellite event on cultural heritage as a driver for energy-efficient and inclusive renovation

When? 11 June 2026
Де? Brussels & Online

Draft programme is available тут. Зареєструйтесь тут. To watch it online, please register тут.

Alongside these discussions, the European Heritage Hub will host a New European Bauhaus Festival satellite event exploring how heritage-led approaches can contribute to sustainability, aesthetics and inclusion at a time when climate, energy and housing crises are increasingly interconnected.

Bringing together EU institutions, local authorities, architects, heritage professionals and civil society actors, the event will examine how cultural heritage can support Europe’s climate and housing transition through adaptive reuse, community-led renovation, and circular renovation practices.

The discussion will be framed by key EU policy developments, including the revised Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD), the European Affordable Housing Plan, and the New European Bauhaus Communication From vision to implementation.

It will also draw on the ICOMOS Report on the Implementation of the European Energy Performance of Buildings Directive, which assesses the impact of the EPBD on Europe’s historic built environment.

Within this context, participants will reflect on how both tangible and intangible cultural heritage can contribute to renovation strategies that combine environmental performance, affordability, social inclusion and architectural quality.

CitySenZ – Sensing European Cities for the New European Bauhaus

When?12 jun – 15:00 – 17:00 (CET)

Де? Online and at Agostinho da Silva Amphitheatre, Universidade Lusófona, Lisbon, Portugal

CitySenZ presents COST Action CA23145 as a living laboratory to rethink European cities through their lived and sensory qualities. A short 12-minute film illustrates how sound, light, microclimates and everyday practices help read and transform urban environments, reflecting New European Bauhaus values of sustainability, inclusiveness and aesthetics. The film is followed by a hybrid participatory discussion linking research, practice and citizens’ experience.

In this debate, we will discuss how we, as inhabitants, live in, use, and experience the city in everyday life. We will explore gestures, practices, behaviours, sounds, light, microclimates, and public spaces. We will also reflect on how we imagine and desire our city in the future. The aim is to think together about how to create cities that are more sustainable, inclusive, and pleasant to live in, in the spirit of the New European Bauhaus.
