Digital Platform for Construction in Europe

_ Duration 2019 – 2021

Programme Horizon 2020

Call   H2020-DT-2018-2

Total Project Budget € 999.132,50

Grant Agreement model Budget-Based

Short description

DigiPLACE conducted a feasibility study for a European Industrial Digital Construction Platform, aiming to modernise the construction industry and strengthen its global competitiveness. The project focused on defining a Reference Architecture Framework (RAF) and strategic guidelines for the future platform, rather than developing the platform itself, which is intended to be implemented through a subsequent EU tender. By establishing technical, organisational and regulatory requirements, DigiPLACE provided the foundation for a shared, interoperable digital ecosystem that could support innovation, efficiency and collaboration across the European construction sector.

The Architects´ Council of Europe’s involvement

The Architects’ Council of Europe actively participated in the DigiPLACE project, representing architects’ perspectives within the broader stakeholder community. ACE contributed to the development of the project’s Reference Architecture Framework, ensuring that the digital platform’s design aligns with architectural practices and standards. Additionally, ACE played a pivotal role in the dissemination of project outcomes, including the creation of the promotional video and the organisation of the webinar titled “Are Architects Ready for Digitalisation” held in September 2020. This webinar featured a European state-of-the-art analysis, examining the current state of digitalisation in the construction industry and identifying potential areas for knowledge transfer. Experts in architecture and digitalisation discussed the necessity of architects’ involvement in the Industry 4.0 revolution. For more information, visit the DigiPLACE News page.

Project results

DigiPLACE carried out a comprehensive mapping of existing digital platforms within and beyond the construction sector, producing a comparative state-of-the-art analysis. The project also delivered an impact assessment of digital technologies on the construction industry and related sectors, identifying potential points for knowledge transfer. Based on these findings, DigiPLACE proposed a roadmap for future research and public policy to support the development of a European Industrial Digital Construction Platform.

Some results are available on the project Канал YouTube and the Cordis platform.
