Strengthening Collaboration for a Sustainable and Circular Europe

Yesterday, Carl Bäckstrand, ACE President, Judit Kimpian, Chair of the ACE Sustainability Working Group, och Pierre Obajtek, ACE Senior Policy Officer, had the honour to meet with European Commissioner Jessika Roswall and her team to discuss the future of the New European Bauhaus initiative and the upcoming Circular Economy Act.

The meeting underscored the critical role of architecture in achieving Europe’s sustainability and circularity goals. The dialogue focused on how to scale up the excellent practices already in place across Europe and how to facilitate knowledge-sharing among stakeholders—including professionals and public authorities—to accelerate progress toward sustainable, inclusive, and high-quality built environments.

We were pleased to present our latest publication, “Architecture Awards as Instruments of Systemic Change,” to Commissioner Roswall. This publication explores how excellence is defined, evaluated, and translated into transformative architectural practice.
