New publication: Quality of Life + Architecture

On the occasion of the 35th anniversary of the Architects’ Council of Europe, we are pleased to announce the publication of a landmark book that brings together decades of collective experience, knowledge and shared reflections. This new document not only updates our long-standing commitments, but also sets out a strategic framework for the architectural profession that is realistic, forward-looking and aligned with Europe’s overall policy objectives.

At the heart of this publication is a clear message: architecture is a public responsibility. It plays a crucial role in strengthening cultural resilience, supporting social cohesion, and enabling the ecological transition.

Today, architecture reaches well beyond the design of buildings; it operates as a strategic instrument linking spatial design to wider societal, environmental, and economic goals. Europe’s built environment is shaped by governance, regulation, investment, culture, and global risks. Architecture, therefore, is inherently a cultural, environmental, and political act—one with far-reaching policy implications.

This publication has been developed to be a practical handbook for ACE Member Organisations to promote architectural policies, inform decision-makers, and provide a reliable source of reference” stated Anda Kursisa, co-author and ACE Executive Board Member.

“Coordinating this publication has strengthened my conviction that architecture is one of Europe’s most powerful cultural and democratic tools. I hope this book becomes a compass for those who want to shape places that are sustainable, beautiful, and deeply human”underlined Borys Czarakcziew, co-author and ACE Executive Board Member.
