The City as a Quarry: Housing Transformation

This free Brussels conference on 4 November brings European housing policy into conversation with architectural experiences of renovation, reuse and extension.

The programme explores how working with existing buildings can contribute to increasing the housing supply, linking public policy and financing with architectural practice. Elena Montani of the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre / New European Bauhaus and Tatiana Márquez Uriarte of its Housing Task Force will contribute to the policy discussion alongside Josep Casas i Miralles. Xavier Bustos Serrat, Frédéric Druot and Jaime Eizaguirre will contribute architectural perspectives, including the transformation of Brunfaut Tower in Brussels.

The conference is organised by the Government of Catalonia and curated by Marta Peris and José Toral of Peris+Toral Arquitectes. José Toral moderates both round tables. It forms part of the series on contemporary Catalan architecture and social housing within World Capital of Architecture Barcelona 2026.

We would appreciate any opportunity to share it with your member organisations and readers interested in housing and the transformation of Europe’s building stock.
