Short description <\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

SONATA (Situation-aware OrchestratioN of AdapTive Architecture) project aims to develop architectural adaptive technologies in workplaces, improving the mental health, well-being, productivity, and social relationships of employees, and to generate evidence-based recommendations for architectural adaptation that can benefit employees. The project explores how interactive architectural elements-such as movable walls, ceilings, and lighting-affect professionals\u2019 well-being and performance by enabling the workplace to adapt to various activities throughout the day, including focused work, one-on-one meetings, and workshops.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Architects\u00b4 Council of Europe\u2019s involvement <\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The Architects’ Council of Europe is working on the project\u2019s overall participatory development approach by identifying and engaging key stakeholders\u2019 groups, evaluating the costs and benefits of the recommendations based on identified needs, Key Performance Indicators and specific costs, as well as identifying and carrying out the standardisation scenarios for SONATA recommendations. Additionally, the Architects\u2019 Council of Europe contributes to the development of the design, monitoring, communication, dissemination, and exploitation of SONATA activities throughout its life span to maximise the impact of its results across different European countries, regions, and industries, building upon existing networking infrastructures, platforms, and European projects. The Architects\u2019 Council of Europe will organise the final event of SONATA in Brussels in 2027.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Expected project results <\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

One relevant result for architects is the design of the orchestration pattern, defining the standard grid and its considerations regarding circulation areas and escape routes, for example. The project will also develop a set of recommendations considering the cost benefits of the proposed orchestration, standardisation, and ethics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
