In February, the Fundaci\u00f3 Mies van der Rohe and the European Commission announced the seven finalists of the 2026 European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture \/ Mies van der Rohe Awards, five in the Architecture category and two in the Emerging category. These nominated works show how architecture can address both local needs and wider societal challenges, creating inclusive, high-quality places where people can live, learn, and come together. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The projects strike a thoughtful balance between innovation and respect for their surroundings. Some revitalise neglected areas\u2014such as former industrial sites, small towns, or peripheral urban districts\u2014while others engage with dense cities. In every case, the design decisions are shaped by a strong understanding of the social, cultural, and environmental forces that define contemporary life. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Save the Date: EUmies Awards 2026 Winners Announcement<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Thursday 16 April 2026 at 17:00 (local time, Oulu) \/ 16:00 CET, the winners of the EUmies Awards 2026 will be officially announced in the categories of Architecture and Emerging.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The announcement will take place at the Aalto Silo \u2013 Centre for Digital Preservation in Oulu, Northern Ostrobothnia, Finland, one of the European Capitals of Culture 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following visits to the finalist projects across Europe, the jury has reached its decision. The jury members are Carl B\u00e4ckstrand, Chris Briffa, Zaiga Gaile, Tina Gregoric, Nikolaus Hirsch and Rosa Lull, with Smiljan Radi\u0107 serving as Jury President.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Participants are invited to attend the announcement event, which will be followed by a discussion with representatives from Oulu 2026 \u2013 European Capital of Culture, the Finnish Association of Architects (SAFA), the Fundaci\u00f3 Mies van der Rohe, and Creative Europe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
