On 23 July 2026, ACE President Daniel Fügenschuh, Vice President Elizabeth Gossart, Secretary General Katharina Erdmenger, and Senior Policy Officer Pierre Obajtek met with the European Commission’s Task Force on Housing to discuss the pressing housing challenges facing Europe and the shared ambition to deliver affordable, sustainable, and high-quality homes for all.
The meeting provided a valuable opportunity to exchange views on how Europe can tackle housing affordability, accelerate the renovation of the existing building stock, and ensure that future housing solutions foster healthy, inclusive, and resilient living environments.
ACE underlined the vital role of architects in shaping housing policies that look beyond the provision of numbers alone. Addressing Europe’s housing needs requires integrated approaches that bring together affordability, sustainability, architectural quality, social value, and long-term performance. Architects are essential partners in delivering Europe’s housing, social, and climate objectives, using their expertise in design, renovation, and the transformation of the built environment to create places that respond to people’s needs and contribute to a more sustainable future.
