Faced with climate challenges, resource scarcity, and changing social needs, the future of architecture increasingly depends on how we work with what already exists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u201cForm Follows Transformation\u201d<\/strong> presents transformation not as a technical solution alone, but as a new architectural culture based on care, adaptation, and long-term stewardship. The exhibition highlights how buildings are shaped by layers of history, materials, communities, and uses, and how architects can unlock their potential through thoughtful interventions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The showcased projects demonstrate that reuse is not simply about preserving the past. F\u00fcgenschuh<\/strong> highlighted the importance of recognising transformation as a fundamental shift in architectural practice: <em>\u201cThe exhibition celebrates projects that demonstrate that this paradigm shift is not only possible, but already underway.\u201d<\/em> He emphasised the role of architects in developing innovative responses to Europe\u2019s environmental and social broader understanding of sustainability: <em>\u201cWe are learning to listen to buildings rather than merely inscribe ourselves upon them.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He further stressed the importance of understanding existing buildings as unique resources: <em>\u201cEvery existing building carries a character of its own.\u201d<\/em> Transformation begins by recognising the qualities already present in buildings and places\u2014their history, materials, atmosphere, and relationship with their surroundings\u2014and using these as the foundation for future interventions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>&#8220;What emerges from these projects is something quieter than a manifesto. A return to proximity: local materials, local knowledge, local hands. A recognition that the most durable solutions are often the least complicated. And an understanding that every existing building carries a character of its own\u2014a logic, a history, a particular way of holding space\u2014that deserves to be heard before anything new is central part of ACE\u2019s presence at the <strong>UIA World Congress of Architects<\/strong> and complemented the policy seminar <strong>\u201cForm Follows Transformation: Moments that Redefine Europe\u2019s Existing Buildings\u201d<\/strong>, which brought together around <strong>200 architects, policymakers, city representatives, and experts from across Europe<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The seminar and exhibition together highlighted the need for closer links between architectural practice and policy frameworks that support the transformation of Europe\u2019s building stock, including the <strong>New European Bauhaus<\/strong>, the <strong>Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD)<\/strong>, and the <strong>Davos Baukultur
